Hi! I’m Nikki Norman, a Florida food and travel blogger, plus award-winning recipe developer, food stylist, and food photographer.
I hope you feel a warm welcome when you visit my blog, just like a guest in my home. Stay awhile, browse around and share your comments on blog posts. I look forward to our conversations here.
If you’re like me I’ll bet you recall your first cooking adventure. At age four, Grandmother helped me bake a Jiffy cake; chocolate with chocolate with frosting. I proudly served portions of the frosted single cake layer from the 9-inch aluminum pan.
From the first bite of my cake, I was hooked on learning everything about food. I wanted to learn to read, just to understand cookbooks. Now for decades I’ve been on a never-ending journey to expand my culinary knowledge. I follow cutting-edge food trends as closely as the latest fashion trends.
I became one of the most successful competitive home cooks in America; winning hundreds of cooking awards for my original recipes; both pastry and savory. I decided to pull back from competitive cooking after I found myself entering a contest with the prize being a milk cow. Where will I donate that? Thank goodness I lost!
In 2000, I was featured on the original PBS television series MasterChef USA, as one of the best home cooks in America, representing the South. I’ve been featured on the Food Network several times (Sutter Home Build a Better Burger Cook-off, Whirlpool’s America’s Ultimate Cake Contest, National Pie Championship, and National Cornbread Festival Cook-off), plus presented live cooking segments on regional television in Nashville, Tennessee. I’ve won the Grand Prize in two national recipe video contests for the National American Lamb Board and Harris Teeter supermarkets, plus the Grand Prize in an international pastry competition open to home cooks and professional pastry chefs.
I’m flattered my food styling, food photography and food writing has been professionally used along with many of my original recipes in cookbooks, on product packaging and for promotional campaigns.
My latest culinary interest in food and travel blogging has a natural fit with professional recipe development and judging national cooking contests.
So I hope you’ll take the time now to bookmark BabyBoomerBakes while you’re here, and join in a blog post conversation.
